Haseebah has collaborated with Midlands Art Centre on two projects during 2025. One being a commissioned printed tapestry to celebrate the start of Ramadan, and another an illustrated window mural to begin ‘Sari Season’ a sari centred exhibition at Midlands Art Centre.

Garden of Paradise

‘Garden of Paradise’ is a large hand printed textile commissioned to honour the start of Ramadan in the Islamic calendar. Set against a lush green wall, this tapestry depicts a blossoming pomegranate tree as it’s centre with Andalusian and Arabesque pattern work manifesting into the canvas material.

Pomegranates are seen as a heavenly fruit in Islam, told to carry medicinal benefits as well as symbolism for growth and fertility. Additionally the fruit is grown at the Alhambra complex in Granada as a glimpse of paradise in its gardens. Given the location of MAC being at a park and considerably surrounded by nature, Haseebah wanted to create threads of connection between the green spaces around the world and how they signify growth, new seasons and contemplation similar to start of Ramadan. The work was created with hand carved lino blocks in various motifs as well as fabric paints in pastel and gold hues. Accompanying the work was a selection of the carvings that were used during the printing technique in order to demystify the making process and create better understanding regarding craftsmanship.

‘Sari Season’ Window Mural

In June 2025 Haseebah was commissioned to create a window dressing inspired by Mehndi motifs and sari fabrics for the upcoming ‘Sari Season’ exhibition at MAC. The window display showcased hand gestures taken from the Indian classical dance of Bharatanatyam, painted with contemporary and classical forms of Mehndi styles. This was accompanied by botanical and paisley elements seen throughout the different regions of South Asia. The artwork was drawn freehand across 3 panels and displayed for the duration of the summer show.
