Classroom as Studio

Classroom as Studio is a two year profession development and learning programme by Arts Connect funded by Paul Hamlyn Foundation’s Teacher Development Fund. During the first year of the programme, Haseebah was one of the artists that was paired with a school to work collaboratively with the teachers and act as creative mentor and associate. Throughout the academic year Haseebah worked with Arden Primary school with a class in Year 4 and nursery along with the teachers to understand how collaboration and partnership between teacher, artist and children, generate new possibilities for creativity and achievement.

Nursery

As part of her time with nursery, Haseebah explored the value of process and play, experimenting with tactile activities such as wet felting, acrylic pouring, screen printing and paper marbling and introducing developmental skills such as turn taking, waiting and collaboration with the nursery children. She also worked with the nursery staff to find creative ways of using books the children were reading such as ‘The Hungry Caterpillar’ weaving narrative into the final outputs that linked the story back to the children and encouraged learning.

Year 4

Basing the sessions around the Year 4 Goegraphy curriculum, Haseebah worked with her Year 4 teacher in the module around farming to find creative ways of students to document data and recall information that was inclusive of the areas being taught in the lesson whilst also being engaging and artistic. This was done by staggering creative sessions in between normal lessons and introducing skills such as printmaking, origami and collage.
